The Ministry of Justice has announced that all courts and tribunals judgment (case results) will now stored and published by The National Archives. We are told they will be available to all as from April 2022.
Lawyers have a variety of online resources to look for case reports. Judgments or case decisions/results are important in our legal system because they interpret the law that is on the statute books and show how it should be applied. One of the first skills a law student is taught at university is how to use a law library with its unique reference system. In the digital age, this should make it easier and more accessible for all.
It’s a big job to get all of the case law onto one system. Many judgments are already digital and so it should be easy for the current ones to be moved across but the older ones? We will have to wait and see.
