A friend told me they were listening to the radio and there was a discussion about marriage proposals at Christmas. Without wishing to be gloomy, it seems Christmas can be a stressful time for some families. Hearing that there are still lots of Christmas proposals lifts the gloom a bit.
If you are one of the couples getting engaged over the Christmas period, firstly – CONGRATULATIONS!
Secondly, when you are planning your wedding from wedding venues to wedding favours, please spare a thought for the part after the wedding. It’s a big step, getting married and there are other legal based things to think about. Yep, it’s time to Adult. If you have a property, children, bank accounts, pensions and so on, you need to be making a Will to take care of things after your death. If you owned property or an inheritance in your own right before you get married, you might want to think about a prenuptial agreement – should things not work out quite as you hoped. Sorry. Solicitors seemed to be the Disaster Planners of life….On the plus side, we are never late to parties. Or ever, really.
I’ve written about prenuptial agreements before:
Prenuptial and post nuptial agreements
And I have written some helpful guidance about making a Will for the website also
If you get a Christmas proposal, have a fantastic celebration over the Christmas period but when New Year rolls around, remember it’s time to Adult.
