The Government has published its response to its own proposal to increase court fees. They did issue a consultation paper asking for views of professional and citizen court users. Does it come as a surprise for them to say they have heard all that has been said but are increasing fees anyway? Hmmmm……
So, looking at the government response to the consultation, it seems that family fees are going to be increased, despite the replies given. We are not quite sure when – the date being given as Autumn 2021. The cynic may say that the date is not given because the court service do not want a rush to issue and take advantage of the cheaper fee. The more generous amongst us may say that it takes time to organise the amendment of the fees order. I am the cynic.
So, the main increases:
- divorce petition: now £550 will be £593
- children application: now £215 will be £232
- financial application: now £255 will be £275
I understand that inflation causes everything to rise in value but it seems to me that these fees were already high and the last thing that a family in difficult times will need is an increase.
