I was delighted to be part of this project, running over several months, many pages of reading and many meetings, condensed to the final report, which can be read HERE.
This is a really important piece of work in the financial area relating to divorce. Pensions are tricky beasts, often misunderstood. They can often be very valuable indeed – often more than the value of the house. It would be a big mistake to overlook valuable pensions, just because they are a bit difficult to understand.
Help is at hand. The Second Report clarifies advice on when a pension expert might be needed and when possibly not. The instruction letter for a pension expert has also been refined with a caution about asking for multiple calculations that may not take a matter further forward.
Family law solicitors, barristers and judges have all found the first report to be extremely useful. I do not doubt that the second report will be just as helpful.
A simpler guide for litigants in person will follow from the project group but in the meantime, some light Christmas reading for you all.
